This
book finishes by reading, "He measured and measured
inch
by inch
until he inched out of sight." Ask your students,
"What do you think this inch worm measured next?" or
"Where do you think he went?" Then have each student
make his own inch worm by cutting out a 5" worm from green
construction paper. Then invite students to choose several items
around them to measure. Some may choose books, pencils, paper,
or desks. Others may choose to measure windows, doorways, or chalkboards.
Have them keep a running list. Then post their results on a bulletin
board that says, "And the next thing the inch worm measured
was our classroom!"
