FIRST DAY
Finding My Teammates!

Submitted by: I Love That Teaching Idea! Staff

Be familiar with your class list so that you can call students by name when they enter your room for the first time. This will make them feel comfortable and important. Student's "cumulative folders" can usually be obtained from the office before the first day. You will most likely find a picture of the student there. You could also look in prior yearbooks so that you can match a name with a face.

Create a wordsearch entitled, "Finding My Teammates!" and place on each desk that first morning. The wordsearch will include every student's name in it. Children can immediately get to work and find out who else is in their class while you continue greeting students at the door.
