No matter what grade you teach, the concept of money is always involved in your math curriculum. Whether it's identifying coins and their values or “counting back” change, money is something that can never be practiced enough. Well, have we got a tune for you! It’s called, “The Lunch Money Jingle” and its to the tune “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” That’s right teachers – this tune is a catchy one and will inspire you and your students to get up and move around!

Download the song and accompanying worksheets by clicking on the links below. These worksheets are ideal for each student to have at their desk. It is also helpful to have worksheet #1 copied onto an overhead transparency to use as you teach. Students can choose menu items from the “Lunch List” (worksheet #2) and determine what coins would be needed to “buy” that item.

Example: A student raises his hand and says that he’d like to “buy” the (fill in the blank) for (fill in the blank). The class would then manipulate those coins on their own worksheets (worksheet #1). You might also want to do this with transparent coins on the overhead. On their papers, students will show three different ways to create the same money total.

These worksheets can be used in a variety of ways, depending on the level of your students and what they are ready for.
